Border Force – Tariff Classification
Importers are required to self-assess their goods, including the tariff classification of their goods. Importers have a legal obligation to correctly assess their goods, and penalties may apply for incorrect or misleading information provided to the Department.
Border Force – Taxes and duties
Generally, all goods imported into Australia are liable for duties and taxes unless an exemption or concession applies. There are exclusions and restrictions to the use of the concessions.

Imported Food Control Regulations 1993
The Imported Food Control Regulations 1993 prescribes that imported foods are to be given one of three classifications (‘risk food’, ‘surveillance food’ or ‘compliance agreement food’).
